Week in Review
I spent this past week painting our bedroom. I felt like I needed a big physical project to keep my brain occupied while I waited for the next doctors appointment. It did help me pass the time. I listened to Big Magic and painted our bedroom peach.
We had some plans for the long weekend, but had to cancel them because Elliott got a stomach bug. Poor kiddo.
The night before my doctors appointment I got to laugh hysterically and eat the most amazing food with two of my best friends from college. I had been successful at distracting myself all week until later that evening when I couldn’t go to sleep. Then I woke up in the middle of the night nauseous and afraid I had caught E’s bug and wouldn’t be able to make it to the appointment. Fortunately I didn’t puke. Jason and I made it down town, waited over an hour in the doctors office, and then finally got to meet the doctor and hear the plan for treatment. He was so nice, patient, and reassuring. He drew diagrams and explained things and answered all my questions. Basically I have a few more doctors visits and tests in March and will have surgery to remove my whole thyroid and a handful of infected lymph nodes in mid-April. It will be a 6 hour surgery and one night in the hospital. Then I will have follow up appoitments with an endocrinologist to figure out the right dose of synthetic hormones. That’s hopefully it. That’s the plan.
After the appointment Jason and I got some fancy sandwiches and I fell asleep on the sofa watching Country House Rescue. I was exhausted from not sleeping and a stressful morning. I haven’t processed any of it yet. I’m glad to have a plan and a doctor that I like, glad that it seems very straightforward.
I was telling a few of my friends about all of this and one of them asked what my favorite comfort place is down town, hers is dunkin’ donuts, so that she could treat me between appointments. Isn’t that so thoughtful? I mention this because I know that it’s hard to know how to care for people and I’m tucking this away as a really thoughtful way to care for folks going through a tough time. If you know they like Starbucks or whatever wouldn’t it be so kind to buy them a starbucks gift card so they could get their favorite treat after their appointments? This friend is a caring genius. Others have offered to bring dinner by when the surgery rolls around or hang with Elliott. People are good. I am just so thankful to be cared for. What a wild ride.
I’m so glad you’re here!
Here are a couple links because I like sharing them.
