Waiting
This week’s free art download is another butterfly. I think I’m going to keep making them as a series while I’m waiting for doctors appointments about my thyroid. As I mentioned last week your thyroid is shaped like a butterfly, so it seems appropriate. They are also just so meditative to draw. I’m still in a limbo stage waiting for more doctors appointments and enjoying my life in the mean time.
Here are a few fun things I wanted to share:
Do you follow homerunballerina on instagram? She is my favorite follow for fashion. Her sense of color and pattern mixing is perfection. She also somehow always manages to look comfortable, cozy, and fashionable which is hard to pull off. She’s been inspiring me to try some more colorful clothes.
I have a marco polo going with a couple of my college friends and my friend Kendra mentioned that she went to an author event by herself at the Philly public library and she was so jazzed about it. You could feel her excitement, and she talked about it like it was a self care event for her. Going somewhere by herself listening to someone she loved talk about their art. It made me think about what self care for me is. I think my figure drawing class is that for me. Drawing is definitely a form of meditation and sitting in silence for hours focusing on a subject feels like an escape.
I live in Philly and it was the superbowl this past weekend. My favorite part was that Elliott’s music teacher taught the kids how to play the Eagles fight song on the glockenspiel.
There is another family in Elliott’s class that are artists with an only kid and it was that awesome kid’s birthday. They took us to Asbury Park and we all celebrated together by eating really awesome pizza at Porta and then played hours of retro arcade games at the Silver Ball. If you have an ounce of nostalgia for boardwalk arcades this place is a must visit. It’s 80% pinball and 20% classic arcade games including my personal favorite, skeeball. You pay a flat fee to enter and can play as many games as you want during your alotted time. Everyone had a blast. Then we walked along the boardwalk and I convinced myself that an old man in a hat and sunglasses petting a dog was definitely Bruce Springsteen.
I went to Lowes for some house project supplies and discovered they have 2 cats working in the birdseed aisle. They are in charge of keeping the mice out of the birdseed and it cracks me up.
That’s all. I’m so glad you’re here. Tell your friends if you like this newsletter.
