This took me years,
and you would never know it
Sometimes ideas get stuck in my brain and it takes me a long time to work them out. This shirt is one of them. Years ago I had the idea to make a mummers parade t-shirt. I wanted it to be weird and wonderful, much like the parade that happens every year in Philadelphia on New Year’s day. I went and photographed the parade for inspiration. I doodled and iterated. I picked it up and put it down. But nothing was feeling quite right. I let it simmer. Then I took this Not Boring Characters class by Anastacia Sholik and it felt like things were clicking once I started cutting out goofy shapes from paper. It helped me to simplify and play in a way that drawing on the iPad was not.
This is it friends. In all its glory. Lol. I present to you my Mummers Shirt. I’m offering 20% off my shop this week in honor of its launch.
Here’s a closeup of the artwork.

Things Worth Sharing
I just finished The Correspondent. Halfway through I flipped to the author’s photo in the back and was BLOWN AWAY that she was so young because lordy, she writes from the perspective of a hard-nosed 70 something year old woman so believably!
I want to go see the Moki Cherry show at the Fabric Workshop Museum.
My family is back on an America’s Funniest Home Video kick.
We’ve been playing the pattern matching race game Qbitz. I also like rubik’s race, but Jason is a little too good at it. Hat tip to my friend Bobbi for the introduction to Rubik’s Race.
Speaking of Jason, this reminded me of him.
Elizabeth Dunker Home tour is all heart eyes. And how did I not know there was a Fine Little Day book?!
That has me going down a Swedish Wall Tapestry rabbit hole. And this one.
A reminder if you’re feeling inspired by Alysa Liu that Philly has free figure skating lessons for kids AND ADULTS. I took them a couple years ago at Tarken Rec with my friend Jen and it was very very very fun.
Thanks for being here! Grab a Mummers shirt if it strikes your fancy.
20% off just this week.
