My painting of the week is this gem of Elliott. I showed it to my friend Sarah and she said, “it looks like you in a painting” which is just the nicest thing to say to an artist. It’s lovely to think that the things that I make look like I made them. This is my first painting of a human outside of an art class, and I’m pretty smitten with the way it turned out.
I started listening to the audiobook Artpreneur while painting. The things I’ve learned so far are that I need to work on my mindset to project more confidence. I am much more comfortable talking about my insecurities than my strengths. I need to work in collections and create painting launches. I need to work bigger and price my work appropriately. I also just need to spend more time thinking about where I want to steer this artistic ship. I need to figure out where I’m going.
And I love everything Monika Forsberg makes, including the illustrations in her newsletter.
I watch every Sandi Hester Youtube video she comes out with. Did I link this one already?
This e-mail newsletter from Helen C Clark had a boatload of good information on creating still life paintings.
And this article on ways to fill a sketchbook.
I’m doing pretty good on my spending ban. I did buy a fig tree for $10 at the grocery store. I feel like this was a nonessential purchase, but also maybe a little essential. I am thinking about ways to fill Elliott’s easter basket with a couple treasures. These magnets that Cup of Jo linked to looked promising.
My family is making plans to visit the Drexel observatory to check out the stars. They open to the public once a month for free. I listened to the A Beautiful Mess podcast and they mentioned that they had a great experience visiting an observatory after one of their kids mentioned they had never seen a star! I immediately googled observatories near me and discovered Drexel has one!
Looking forward to seeing this Wanda Gág exhibit at the PMA this weekend when my cousin Mary comes to town!
If you’re in Philly I really really recommend a trip to Fiore. I made my family go there for lunch on my birthday and it’s one of those places where everything you order is just perfection. Also they just started taking dinner reservations!
