The Faith Stage
I’m in the faith stage of the creative process. I’ve been working away on making a bunch of patterns for a licensing portfolio. I’ve been sketching and coloring and pixel pushing making pretty patterns that will hopefully be licensed by companies for products. And yes that’s where the patterns on your clothes and pillows and notebooks come from, from someone’s brain and hands. I’m putting in the work and hoping and praying that someone will like them enough to license the designs. It is an act of faith. You kind of have to just put your fears aside of how your art will be received and get to work. You’ve gotta make things that delight you and hope they will delight someone else. It is also very fun, the whole wizardry of making something from nothing and having a vision come to life. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes. Thank you for cheering me on.
Last week I mentioned that I added a paid option to my newsletter and I am so happy to announce that I got my first paid subscriber! Shoutout to Darcy for being such a good friend. I gasped, I did a dance! Thank you!
Reading: Getting my sci-fi fix with Wool by Hugh Howey. Hugh wrote the book over three years while working in bookshops. He originally self published it and it was a runaway hit. I love stories like this. Friends if there’s something brewing inside you please find a way to share it with the world. The world needs your art.
Eating: This Morning Glory Cake again since we always have half eaten apples lying around and languishing carrots in the fridge. It is good enough to get out the food processor.
Listening to this episode of Everything Happens with Rob Delaney about losing his son. I don’t want to wallow in grief but I also think we don’t acknowledge it enough. Let’s talk about hard things friends.
This pumpkin grew in my yard from the compost heap. A volunteer from a rotten CSA offering last year. There’s a metaphor in there.
