Recovery Week
Nary a holiday sale in sight
We’re all really tired right? Thanksgiving was a whirlwind? Yeah, same here.
Ok great, now that we’re all on the same page here are some ways I’m collecting myself after turkey day and some silly things worth sharing.
Thanksgiving Recovery
First, I’m filling up my water bottle. Maybe I’ll even remember to take my vitamins.
After that it’s time for a brain dump, a phrase that is gross and needs to be rebranded.
Next I’m making a big pot of vegetable soup. I have a zucchini languishing in my fridge so it looks like it will be minestrone. I may omit the pasta and add some more protein.
I’m gonna move my body a little bit. Perhaps a walk or a Move with Nicole pilates video, because she is the YouTube pilates queen and I don’t have to leave my house.
I will put on the old She & Him Christmas album because I am a millennial and Zoey Deschanel has the voice of an angel.
Then I will check out a cookie cookbook from the library or peruse the internet and go down the fun rabbit hole of deciding what cookies I want to make. I’m going to make deciding part of the fun. Do you have a favorite recipe I should try?
Things Worth Sharing
Gifting: I brought a little bead kit to Thanksgiving and it was a fun activity to sit around and do with Elliott and Darby. I’m still wearing my bracelet. It would be fun to bring to a holiday gathering, something both kids and adults can sit around and make while chatting.
Making: I also brought some teabags and made multiple batches of home brewed iced tea to rave reviews. Simple and comforting!
Reading: Get the Picture: A Mind-Bending Journey among the Inspired Artists and Obsessive Art Fiends Who Taught Me How to See I picked this off the shelf at the library because the title and cover piqued my interest. I had never heard of it before, but so far it’s really funny and interesting. It’s a nonfiction account of a woman with a journalism background trying to understand the Art world. It’s really great if you want to understand what the heck is going on in contemporary art galleries and museums but feel like you’re missing something, or that maybe you feel like it’s just not for you. She ends up working for a young gallery owner in Brooklyn who takes her under his wing and gives her, and us by extension, a crash course in all things capital A Art.
Reading with Elliott: Kate McKinnon’s goofy chapter book The Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette for Young Ladies of Mad Science
Newsletter: I’ve been enjoying This Looks Good a guide to cool things going on in Philadelphia.
Podcasts: Happiness hacks for the holidays. Or Felakuti- Fear No Man About the father of Afro-beats who changed Nigeria through his music if you want to feel cultured. Or if you want to know why you’re addicted to true crime podcasts you can listen to this Hidden Brain episode.
Playing: Netflix games. Have your kids gotten you to try this yet? You use you phone or iPad as controllers to play games on Netflix, we really like Pictionary and Tetris.
Art Books: To inspire your snail mail.
Watching: Every year I shout from the rooftops the beauty that is “The Snowman”. That flying sequence makes me weepy every year. What’s your Christmas nostalgia watch? Old school Grinch? Charlie Brown? Let me know in the comments.
Learning: I took this little self portrait class, and made the painting at the top of this newsletter.
Thanks for being here! Check out some shirts! And prints!
All amazon links are affiliate links, this is a small experiment I’m trying to see how I can monetize this newsletter. Thanks for sticking with me on this journey.
I’m so thankful for the folks who have chosen to support this little venture!
