Here’s a bit from my sketchbook. A little copy of Cezanne’s Woman in Blue. Keeping it loose! Keeping it fun!
I added all the original little paintings I’ve been making to my online shop. I just want them to be shared and loved and hang in people’s homes. I’m also giving newsletter readers first dibs and a 50% off discount code. Just enter Summer at checkout. I’m trying to make some space for new prints, so I’d love to get these out into the world. Buy some art! Tell your friends!
Now for some things worth sharing:
I make this strawberry crumble every year when it reaches the point in the season where they’re basically giving strawberries away at the grocery store. I didn’t have rhubarb so I just doubled the strawberries.
I’ve been following Maura Grace Ambrose’s quilting journey since she was living in Fishtown showing her quilts in a shared gallery space more than a decade ago. I am so inspired by her and her journey. This interview with her and Zak Foster was such a delight. I love when she talks about noticing when you feel excited to make something, recognizing where in your body you feel that joy. She also talks briefly about moving away from making quilts for profit and instead turning towards teaching her skills to her community. It is A+ stuff.
I also listened to this interview with Emma Carlisle. She is someone who speaks super openly about a breakdown she had after graduating from school and working as an illustrator. She felt like she was being pushed in directions that just weren’t right for her but wasn’t able to figure out how to make things that resonated with her heart and also please the clients she was working for. The breakdown led her back to joy, making work for herself and then a publisher finding her and allowing her to make the things that she loved. It is such a good interview.
I’ve been trying to clean out our basement, sifting through all my supplies and collections. I’m debating giving away a big stash of leather scraps or buying this sandal making book to use the scraps to make some sandals. I think you all can guess which one I’m leaning towards. Someone please help me stop acquiring new hobbies.
