Back in the Saddle
I didn’t mean to take the Summer off, but here we are mid September and it looks like I did. Sometimes it’s hard to know how to restart things when you’ve pressed pause, but let’s give this a go.
Things I’ve been up to:
I have been taking all of Tom Froese classes on Skillshare and giving myself little projects based on them. I made a bunch of posters celebrating my hometown. I’m hoping to complete the collection and see if I can wholesale them to a few shops in the little beach town that I grew up in.
The best adventure we went on over the summer was fossil hunting in New Jersey. Doesn’t that sound bananas? We actually found fossils in NEW JERSEY! We went to Big Brook Nature Preserve and brought a little sifter and found fossilized seashells and squid. One guy we talked to found a sharks tooth in the creek. It was so coooool.
I made some little paintings and sold some little paintings.
I read all of the books in the Thursday Murder Club series and loved each and every one of them. They’re about a rag tag group of elderly folks who meet on Thursdays in their retirement community to solve murders. I have a deep affection for all of the characters.
I bought a book of logic puzzles called Murdle. They are mysteries where you are given clues and have to figure out who-dun-it by reason and deduction. I’m still on the easy ones, but they feel good for my brain.
I did a lot of spin classes and lifting heavy things in my basement thanks to Kaleigh Cohen’s free classes, adjustable weights and my bike from craigslist. She has a motivating best friend vibe instead of treadmill cult leader vibe which I appreciate.
Jason worked for NBC making graphics for their Olympics coverage, so we consumed a lot of Olympics content searching for things that he made. It was really fun to get swept away with all the stories. I have such an admiration for those athletes.
We visited Alabama and I got to paint for a whole day with my niece. I made one of her paintings into this cool dress. I had it printed with Yoycol, I chose this company because my niece really likes wearing dresses and they had a style that I thought would be great for her. The company has mixed reviews but I found that this particular project turned out great.
My cousin Jake got married and I spent the day on a flower farm with his sister Mary and we made all the floral arrangements and hung out with all the butterflies.
It feels good to be back. Thanks for sticking around.
Haley
