2023 is not my favorite so far. Me and Jason both tested positive for covid this morning. Elliott, fortunately, doesn’t have it. Last week at a doctor’s appointment my doctor found a large lump on my thyroid that I need to get an ultrasound on. Internet searches are weirdly reassuring that I’m probably fine, but my anxiety has me in a lil doom spiral. My cholesterol is high. I have a large medical bill I’m in the middle of disputing. All the things that are too personal to mention on the internet. I am tired and coughing and grumpy. I have all the feeeeeeelinnnngggs. If you need me this month I’ll be on the struggle bus.
Sorry if you were expecting rays of sunshine beaming from this week’s newsletter.
Here’s what I’ve been consuming lately:
Reading:
I’ve been reading the book “The Shepherd’s Life” all about a modern man continuing and documenting his family’s centuries long tradition of raising and tending sheep in England’s Lake district. I found out in this book that Beatrix Potter was instrumental in conserving this area of her country and sent me down a little rabbit hole (pun intended) learning more about the artist. I also learned that shepherds often make their crooks from the horns of deceased sheep. Some of them are so beautiful, look at this one.
Watching:
We finished watching Slow Horses on Apple TV, which was gripping and intense about England’s version of the CIA and a rag tag group of misfits solving an unfolding crime.
Our whole family loved the Matilda musical and I’ve been humming the songs all week. I guess we’re having a bit of an Anglophile week.
Purchase:
I took one of my favorite drawings from Elliott and made it into a T-shirt on Rush Order T’s. I’m obsessed.
That’s all. I’m so glad you’re here.
I'm really sorry to hear this. Have been a thyroid patient for 7 years now and an ongoing battle with Hashimotos, thyroid flares and metabolic fatigue. Its one of those silent diseases that creeps up on you but can still be managed with diet (still figuring out what to eat and not to) and daily hormone pills; hope your ultrasound will give you more answers. Sending positive energy on your way ❤
